The Life

I have a friend who loves his job.  He gets to interact with a huge variety of people, which he loves.  I’m an introvert, so, I don’t think I would like it so much.  But he is an extrovert, and so people fuel him and give him energy.  Plus, he has a very flexible schedule and he loves what he does, which makes all the difference.

He’s been telling me of some of the people he’s worked with lately, which is hilarious.  Some folks came in wearing a plus size pirate costume and handling some of these.  This was for their family picture!  Ha, they all wanted to be dressed up as pirates.  I think that is hysterical.  People are funny.

Well, he’s living the life.  What about you?  Do you like your work.  Most people don’t, but I guess it’s to be expected.  Meaningless, meaningless…so says the teacher.

Themed Party

With Halloween coming up, I have some friends who are practicing by throwing a themed party this weekend.  The theme is pirates, which is always a hit.  How can you go wrong with pirates???  Everyone loves to give a good ARRRGGGHHHH!  Well, they’ve been shopping online for all kinds of things.  And I have been trying to find the right get up for the event.  It’s going to be a lot of fun.

I love that Fall is finally here.  I’m a huge fan of October.  The leaves turn, the weather gets cooler.  There’s football going on everywhere you turn.  It’s just a great season.  It’s also a lot easier for me to drink my Korean ginseng tea, when it’s not 90 degrees out.

Good times.  I’m looking forward to this party and the fall season.  It’s a whole lot of fun!

A Godly woman’s Funeral

My best friend just buried his mother.  She was in her mid 50’s and was tragically killed in a car accident, but she wasn’t in a car.  She was in London for a friend’s wedding with her sister, when crossing the street, she was struck by a car and obtained severe head trauma.  By the time her family arrived from the States, all they could do was say their goodbyes.

It’s such a sad story, but there is a silver lining.  There is a happy ending.  Liz knew Jesus, and she loved him well.  The funeral was the largest and most hope filled funeral I had ever attended.  The message of Jesus was communicated very clearly because Liz lived it.  There were hundreds of lives there who had been touched by her love, and it was an incredible display of respect and honor.  I was full of emotion, not only at her death, but when thinking of her heavenly escape.

My friend used to say that he liked funerals more than weddings.  When I first knew him, I thought this was the strangest comment ever spoken.  Now, he’s buried his mother, a Godly woman.  We got together yesterday and talked, and now I know what he means.  We said calmly to each other in agreement, “I hope I go out like that.”

My Grandma

My great uncle just passed away last week, leaving my grandma the only person left on a 1,000 acre farm in Michigan.  In my mom’s family, two brothers married two sisters and with 11 kids between them, they ran this farm for over 70 years.  Now, my grandma is all alone because her husband and her sister died in the last year.

We’ve asked her to come and stay with my parents, but she is uncomfortable being anywhere but that farm.  She’s been there her whole life and has rarely ever traveled.  At least, we’re trying to make her life a bit easier by giving her new appliances, things like that.  We’ve also installed a handicap accessible bathtub, so she will be less likely to hurt herself when bathing.  We first saw these walk in bathtubs at a friend’s house and thought they were a great idea.  In the past, grandma has had very bad heel pain, and we’ve looked into various home treatments for heel spurs.  Hopefully, the bathtub will alleviate some of that pain.

I can’t imagine being all alone on that farm with everyone you know gone.  I just read in 1 Timothy yesterday about taking care of widows, and how if you don’t take care of your immediate family, you are worse than an unbeliever.  I’m going to encourage my parents to still do whatever they can to help grandma.

Summer of Love

This last weekend, I attended a wedding of a good friend of mine.  She looked so beautiful, and the whole day was just gorgeous.  You couldn’t have asked for better weather.  Her dress was amazing!  I loved it so much, and her hair was also done so great.  She had done everything right.  I asked her at the reception what kind of makeup she uses, and found out it was the same as mine – Alexandra de markoff makeup and an organic makeup.

I tried really hard to get them a good gift because I didn’t want to cop out with cash, and all of the good things on their registry were taken, so I got them this.  I think they’ll like it because they love their aquarium.  Anyway, I’m happy for them.  I hope they have a wonderful marriage.

Cool Restaurant

I went out to a cool restaurant with some friends that had a great Caribbean theme. I love eating seafood, so this was a great place to go. We showed up, and they had some great pirate music playing to set the mood – light and fun. They also had a great aquarium with these amazing unique aquarium decorations. We had a blast, drinking margaritas and just enjoying each others’ company. Life is so good when you have good friends and good food. I got so into the theme of the night that I came home and shopped online and found this. I think it will be fun in the future. Moral of the story, go out and eat with your friends!
